Trip to Greenwich with BNY Mellon

By | August 24, 2016

Age Concern City of London were delighted to travel to Greenwich with twelve corporate volunteers from BNY Mellon. The trip took place on Tuesday August 23rd and saw seventeen older residents from around the Square Mile enjoy a picnic together in the warm weather.

The outing was part of ACCoL’s programme of trips and social events, aimed at enabling often-isolated older people to get out and make the most of their city. Our group enjoyed a guided walk around historic Greenwich and a visit to the Painted Chapel, courtesy of our volunteer walk leader, Colin. This was followed by lunch outside in the park, which was enjoyed by all.

The view from the top of the hill!

After lunch, some guests stayed to relax in the sunshine and explore the Maritime Museum, while most of the group headed up the very steep hill to the Observatory, where we were rewarded with cake and ice-cream in the Pavilion Café. Even our oldest attendee at 92 made it up to the top without pausing for a breather! Our busy day was rounded off with a ride home on a Thames Clipper River Bus. A great time was had by all and we thoroughly look forward to our next event.
